Best Specs for New Players in Midnight

shifu.gg Editorial·April 3, 2026

Starting Mythic+ for the first time in Midnight Season 1? Four specs stand out for new players: forgiving rotations, strong survivability, and room to grow as your skill increases.

1. Protection Warrior

Why it's great for beginners: The tank role gives you control of the pace. Protection Warrior has the clearest defensive toolkit — Shield Block, Ignore Pain, Last Stand — and the rotation is one of the most legible in the game: generate rage, spend rage on defensives and damage.

Gear path: Start with crafted Plate gear from Runeforging, prioritize Haste and Mastery secondary stats.

What to learn first: Pull sizing. Start small (2-3 mobs) and expand as you understand dungeon threat patterns.

2. Restoration Shaman

Why it's great for beginners: Chain Heal and Healing Rain are forgiving multi-target heals that cover mistakes. Spirit Link Totem and Healing Tide Totem provide emergency buttons that can save wipes.

Gear path: Mail gear with Intellect. Haste is your primary secondary stat.

What to learn first: Wind Rush Totem for movement phases. It wins more keys than any other utility spell healers have access to.

3. Havoc Demon Hunter

Why it's great for beginners: High built-in mobility means mistakes are survivable. Spectral Sight reveals flanking enemies. The rotation is fundamentally simple: Eye Beam on cooldown, Blade Dance on cooldown, Chaos Strike to fill.

Gear path: Leather gear with Agility. Haste is the primary DPS secondary stat this patch.

What to learn first: Interrupt rotation. Havoc has two interrupts — Disrupt and Imprison. Using both correctly immediately elevates your group value.

4. Balance Druid

Why it's great for beginners: Off-heal capability means you can cover gaps when your healer is moving. Starsurge + Starfall rotation is easy to understand and hard to completely break. Innervate provides direct support to your healer.

Gear path: Leather gear with Intellect. Mastery is the dominant secondary stat for Balance this season.

What to learn first: Starfall timing. Dropping Starfall at the start of AoE packs and maintaining it through pulls is the single biggest skill improvement for Balance players.
